“Memorial Stadium July 4, 1973,” Poem, Joseph Kenney.

Joseph Kenney obtained a BA in Humanistic Studies at the Johns Hopkins University, an MA and PhD in Comparative Literature at the University of Chicago, and was a Fulbright Fellow at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich, all of which, for better or worse, have left their mark. While pursuing an academic career he published research on Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Thomas Mann, and Arthur Schnitzler. When the climate shifted in the 1980s and the market for comparatists dried up for a while, Mr. Kenney migrated to farther fields where he could apply his analytical skills to better support a growing family. In particular, from the turn of the century until his recent retirement he worked for IBM, advising various federal agencies around D.C. on research and technology to support advanced mission analytics. Throughout, he has tried to live, think, write, and act as the humanist he trained to be. Other than a translation of an Ernst Jandl poem in the Chicago Review, he has not previously published any poetry. He has, however, written poetry all his life, and sees no reason to stop just yet. He now lives in Bay Village, Ohio, and can be reached at jmkenney7@gmail.com.
