Every summer now, my country

catches fire. Some think God

is a child playing with matches.

I think rich men will stand by

and watch anything burn.

Alex Dawson is a writer, wildlife photographer, mom and adult ESL teacher. She’s published two poetry collections, “All these Living Things” and “Upon Learning That”. She has been nominated twice for the Pushcart Prize, 2026, and once for the Best of Net, 2026 and is the head Messy Writer at “The Messy Writers Club” (a poetry writing group) on Substack.
