“Ordinary Wonder,” Poem, Leonie Anderson.
How blessed we are to have honey and bread
All things considered life is not half as bad
as we make it out to be
Though many have reservations
and are wounded
When dawn falls light spills
more tenderness than grief
There is still greening in the fields
and sweetness at the mouth.
We fold back time to find
that life brings us all back
to a country called love
We see the obscure light
the settling of kindness
like the amber shade of
summer its warmth on the skin
Ordinarily we take things
for granted and we shouldn't.
Bio: Leonie Anderson developed a passion for writing as a young girl on the island of Jamaica. Growing up beside her neighborhood library, Leonie would spend endless hours exploring the fascinating world that authors created through their compelling fictional works. This awakened her love for reading and writing. Her favourite genres are mystery and fantasy, but she prefers to write emotional poetry and realistic fiction. She migrated from the Caribbean, and now resides in the United States, where she teaches English Language Arts, and spend her days secretly trying to instill a of love of language and reading in her kids. Leonie is a published poet, relationship blogger, and nature enthusiast. She believes that poetry is able to “describe the indescribable, love the unlovable, feel the undeniable, and grieves with the inconsolable”. She contends that this aforementioned quote is the principal reason she is impelled to write.
